Traditional conservatories often suffer from poor thermal insulation due to their glass or polycarbonate roofs, which offer little protection against extreme temperatures. In winter, heat quickly escapes through the thin, uninsulated roofing, leaving the space cold and uninviting. Slate eco roofing is an innovative roofing system that features the aesthetic appeal of natural slate without the risk of cracking and breaking. It has also been independently fire and weather tested by the BRE.

Each colour has been tested to high UV exposure and exhibits virtually no fade and with no trace of cracking or splitting. This versatile option will keep your roof looking it’s best for years to come.

Shingle is an alternative finish to slate that can be applied to your Eco Roof. Esprit Shingle is made from lightweight, high-grade steel with Aluzinc® coating for incredible strength and resistance. The tiles feature a unique ‘hidden fix’ system that leaves no nails exposed to corrosion, ensuring the longevity of your roof.

Will I require planning permission?

Planning permission is not required provided that:

1. The ground area covered by the extension and any other buildings within the boundary of the property, excluding the original house, is not more than half the total area of the property.
2. Any part of the extension is not higher than the highest part of the roof of the existing house.
3. The eaves of the extension are not higher than the eaves of the existing house.
4. Any part of the extension does not extend beyond any wall facing a road if it forms the principal or side elevation of the original house.

How much does an Eco Roof cost?

The cost associated with the installation of a True North Eco Roof are very specific to your home and your requirements. Please contact us to arrange an estimate.

Will an Eco Roof fit my conservatory?

All Eco Roofs are made bespoke to fit your existing conservatory. The system is designed to cover all designs and sizes. The roofing system we use also allows the option for VELUX roof windows or fully glazed panels.

We do not have a low brick wall or we have plastic panels on our conservatory. Can an Eco Roof still be fitted or will it be to heavy?

Providing the frames are fully reinforced it should not be a problem installing an Eco Roof on full height frames. A Certified Installer of the system can check that the frames are fully reinforced and advise accordingly.

What style options are available?

Is building control required?

Gaining building regulations approval from your local authority for your new Eco Roof is necessary and has multiple benefits for homeowners. Our roofing system has been been rigorously checked centrally by Hertford Building Control (HBC). We are partnered with the LABC and are therefore able to submit and process the necessary building control requirements through the LABC and through your local building authority. Your Installer will be able to discuss more about this process and the costs involved.

Can a log burning flue be put through an Eco Roof?

Yes it is possible to put a log burner flue through an Eco Roof. You will need to check with the supplier of the burner regarding sealing from the outside and how far the insulation should be cut back from the the flue itself.

What guarantees do homeowners recieve with an Eco Roof installation?

There are three key guarantees that all homeowners receive when their Eco Roof is fitted by a Certified Installer. Your roof is covered by a 10 year product guarantee, you also receive a 10 year workmanship guarantee from your certified Installer. In the unlikely even that the certified Installer ceases trading you also have an Insurance Backed Guarantee.
